Tommaso Elli from Density Design Lab successfully defended his Master thesis at the Polytechnic University of Milan. His thesis is the first outcome of the collaboration between our group and the Density Design team. The collaboration aims at fostering the cross-fertilization between Design, Natural Language Processing and Digital Humanities.

We processed with NLP tools (e.g. PoS tagger, Named Entities Recognizer) Nixon’s and Kennedy’s speeches uttered during the U.S. presidential campaign in 1960 and Tommaso designed a platform (called Oratio) to help historians make comparisons between these two politicians. A wide set of data visualizations is available in the platform so to highlight differences between Nixon and Kennedy and lead history researchers to interesting findings.
